BILL SOLOMON is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries. He attained his fellowship in 1973, having graduated from the University of Toronto in 1967 (B.Sc.) and the University of Michigan (Master of Actuarial Science) in 1968.

He has been in the pension and insurance industry since 1968. Following two years with Sun Life Assurance Company in Montreal, he worked with Confederation Life for six years, latterly as Manager of the Group Pension area. From 1976 until joining Tillinghast, he was an Assistant Vice-President and Senior Consulting Actuary with Johnson and Higgins, Willis Faber Ltd. in Toronto. In this capacity, he was responsible for providing consulting and actuarial services to many corporate pension plan sponsors.

He joined Tillinghast in January 1982 as Vice-President, and was a founding shareholder of Actrex Partners Limited, which acquired the Canadian subsidiary of Tillinghast in 1986. Actrex merged with Buck Consultants Limited in 1993, with Bill being a Senior Principal. He specialized in pension investment matters, and headed Buck’s investment consulting practice. In September, 2002, he left Buck and now consults exclusively on investment matters to pension funds, endowments, foundations and the like, primarily on a pro bono basis.

He has lectured extensively on pension and investment topics for the Centre for Employee Benefits at Humber College and has been a frequent speaker at seminars sponsored by SHARE, the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute and ACPM. He has had articles on pensions published in Benefits Canada, Benefits International, and Pension and Benefits Monitor. Mr. Solomon was a member of the Program Committee of the Pension Section of the Society of Actuaries, the Social Security Committee and the Committee on Environmental Liabilities of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of York Region and is currently serves on the Board of GFD Canada. He was a member of the pension committees of the Ontario March of Dimes, and the Canadian Rabbinic Pension Plan. and currently serves on the pension and investment committees of the Jewish Federation of Toronto.
